Once you search, the database will provide a detailed list of contaminants found in your water, their levels, potential health effects, and how they compare to both EPA legal limits and EWG’s stricter health guidelines based on the latest science. 📝 For example, contaminants like hexavalent chromium, lead, and disinfection byproducts (e.g., TTHMs) are often flagged due to their health risks, including cancer and hormonal disruption. ⚠️ Each contaminant includes detailed information about its effects, particularly for vulnerable populations like children and pregnant women, and the database even offers recommendations for water filters that can address specific contaminants. 🛠️ While the EWG database uses historical data, you can also contact your local water supplier to request the most recent Consumer Confidence Report (CCR), which is updated annually. 📋 This proactive approach to understanding your water quality allows you to make informed decisions, like installing appropriate water filtration systems, because as the EWG reminds us, meeting legal standards doesn’t always mean the water is safe—legal does not equal risk-free. 🚰✅
